Every great business has its humble beginnings, and for Snip&Clip Alaska, the journey started with a simple, yet powerful promise made over a MacBook dream. This is the story of Kaedyn Jennings—a young entrepreneur whose early determination laid the foundation for one of Alaska’s leading landscaping and snow management companies.
A Spark at 13
In 2018, at just 13 years old, Kaedyn faced a challenge that many of us can relate to: wanting something that seemed out of reach. When he set his sights on a MacBook, his grandmother offered a deal—he could have the MacBook if he committed to mowing the lawn once a month for two years. What might have seemed like a simple chore turned into a life-changing opportunity. For Kaedyn, it was about more than just earning a computer—it was his first taste of responsibility, discipline, and the rewards of hard work.
Learning Through Experience
As Kaedyn grew, so did his ambition. While still honing his skills on neighborhood lawns, he took on roles that would further shape his work ethic. His time at the Palmer Alehouse taught him the importance of customer service and communication. An unexpected highlight from those early days was a brief encounter with former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, whose encouraging words about his potential sparked even greater confidence in him. Soon after, Kaedyn expanded his experience by working at Diversified Tire in Wasilla, where he learned the value of punctuality and reliability—traits that would later become synonymous with Snip&Clip Alaska.
The Birth of an Idea
The real turning point came during the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many, Kaedyn found himself reflecting on his future, and with the help of his friend Dillon Finn—who would eventually become the operations manager at Snip&Clip Alaska—he started to sketch out a business plan. Kaedyn’s vision was clear: create a service that could handle both the challenges of maintaining a beautiful lawn during summer and ensuring safe, clear driveways in winter. It was a bold idea tailored perfectly to the unique Alaskan climate.
Building Snip&Clip Alaska
Despite some initial discouragement from his parents regarding his new venture, Kaedyn’s determination never wavered. Resourceful and resilient, he tapped into his state’s PFD check and secured a $2,000 loan from his supportive uncle, Kevin Knox. With this seed money, he bought a lawn mower, a 12-foot trailer from a family friend, and other essential equipment. It wasn’t long before the business began to take shape.
From its very first month, Snip&Clip Alaska showed promise. Kaedyn’s innovative 12-month payment plan made it easier for customers to manage costs, and his commitment to quality and reliability quickly earned him a loyal customer base. What started as a modest lawn care service soon expanded to include comprehensive snow management, meeting the needs of residents and businesses across the Matanuska-Susitna Valley.
Today and Beyond
Today, Snip&Clip Alaska stands as a testament to Kaedyn Jennings’ vision and perseverance. His journey from a determined teenager trading lawn care for a MacBook to a successful business owner is an inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs everywhere. Through every challenge and triumph, Kaedyn’s story reminds us that hard work, resourcefulness, and a little bit of bold dreaming can pave the way for extraordinary success.
