Snow Plowing in Tanaina, Seldon Road and Schrock Road: The North Wasilla Routes

Snow laden trees over a residential street in Tanaina, Wasilla, Alaska
North of town. More trees, more shade, more snow that stays.
What you need to know
  • Tanaina, the Seldon Road neighborhoods and the Schrock Road area are on routes.
  • Lots are bigger and driveways are longer than in town, so prices run a little higher and square footage decides it.
  • More trees means more shade, and shaded driveways ice up faster. Getting there before the cars do matters more up here.
  • The borough plows the roads on its own schedule. Your driveway is done overnight whether the road is or not.

North of the Parks, the subdivisions off Seldon and Schrock and out through Tanaina are where a lot of Wasilla actually lives. Here is how we run them and what to expect on a storm night.

Area by area

TanainaEstablished neighborhoods, big trees, medium to long driveways. Tight enough for good routes, shaded enough that timing matters.
Seldon Road neighborhoodsSubdivisions off Seldon fill early because they are close together and everybody commutes. One of the first areas to close.
Schrock Road areaBigger lots and longer gravel driveways as you go out. Priced by square footage, planned on the first visit.
Between themIf your subdivision is off a connector road, send the form. Routes run through this whole area and we confirm your street within 24 hours.

Shade and ice

In town, a driveway gets sun and a few inches of snow softens by afternoon. Up here under the trees it does not. Snow that gets driven on before it is plowed packs into ice and stays ice until April. That is the single biggest reason we run these routes overnight and why the trigger is automatic. The plow has to beat the tires.

If your driveway has a grade under the trees, ask about sanding on the quote call. We use gravel, not sand, because it stays put.

The subdivisions off Seldon are built for this. Everybody is already on the same street and everybody needs the same thing at the same hour.

What it costs

Most Wasilla driveways land between about $180 and $300 a month for a full season, billed in seven payments October through April. Up here the driveways run a little longer so prices sit a little higher in that range, and the long gravel ones out Schrock can land above it. We measure your driveway and give you the exact number within 24 hours of the form.

Quick answers

Do you plow Tanaina?

Yes. Tanaina, the Seldon Road neighborhoods and the Schrock Road area are all on routes.

My driveway ices up every year. What helps?

Getting plowed before it gets driven on, which is what the overnight routes are for, and gravel sanding on the grade. Ask on the quote call.

How far out Schrock do you go?

It depends on where routes already run. Send the form and we confirm within 24 hours. Neighbors signing up together open new stretches.

What time will it be done?

Overnight on a normal storm. On a storm that is still going we may let it stack to about 6 inches so the pass lasts, and you get a text either way.
