The Buddy System is the simplest thing we do and the thing that saves people the most money, so here is the whole idea in plain terms.

Why a neighbor makes you cheaper to plow

A plow truck's expensive minutes are the ones between driveways. Driving across town to do one driveway and driving back is what kills a route. Two driveways next to each other is one drive and two plows. Ten driveways on one street is one drive and a whole night of work. So when your neighbor signs up, plowing you genuinely costs us less, and the 10 percent is us splitting that with you instead of keeping it.

How to set it up

  1. Fill out the quote formSame form as everybody. Put your neighbor's name in the notes, or have them do the same with yours.
  2. We call you bothWithin 24 hours. Each of you gets your own price for your own driveway, with 10 percent off.
  3. Same route, same nightYour driveways are back to back on the route, which is the whole point.
  4. Add more laterIf a third neighbor joins in November, they get the discount too. The more of the street that is on, the better the route runs.

How it opens streets we do not run yet

Out KGB, on the hillside in Anchorage, on the far end of Palmer Fishhook, there are streets that are not on a route because one driveway out there does not make a stop worth building around. Two or three do. So when you and a couple of neighbors sign up together on a street that is closed, that is very often what opens it.

If you fill out the form and hear that your street is not on a route yet, this is the fastest way to change that answer.

Who it works for

Neighbors, obviously. But also duplexes, shared driveways, family on the same road, and rental owners with more than one property on a street. If two driveways are next to each other and both are on the route, it counts.

Does it work for lawn care too?

Yes. The Buddy System runs on our lawn routes in the summer the same way.

How many neighbors can join?

As many as want to. The more of a street that is on the route, the better the route runs.
